The central truth for this session is: Following Jesus is a lifelong commitment and we all need to constantly encourage one another to stay strong in Him.
Read this short piece from InTouch Ministries, then take some time to examine the condition of your own heart and answer the following questions. The 9 characteristics of a hardening heart listed by InTouch Ministries will give you a good gauge for observing where your students might be spiritually.
- Are there any specific characteristics listed that you struggle with? Any you have previously faced or overcome in your walk with the Lord?
- Take some time to think about your students and where they are spiritually. Observe their actions and behaviors and their overall demeanor and attitude about church.
- Spend some time praying specifically for each of your students, whether they are spiritually mature or if they may be struggling with some heart issues.
As you prepare to teach, try to be mindful of the different places your students might be spiritually. Pray for God’s wisdom in your teaching and for discernment in knowing how to best encourage your students.
Hebrews 3:13 is the memory verse for this session, so you might write or print this on a note card to help you memorize it with your students. It will also be a personal reminder for you to encourage others.

Hi Spencer,
I’m sorry. What part of the study isn’t working for you? The leader helps are designed to supplement the session, so I would suggest primarily focusing on the leader guide session 4 content. Let us know if you have any questions or if there’s any way we can be of help.
Blessings,
Jennifer
