Give me text, not video. If you would provide a transcript of the remarks I would make use of it. But I do not have time to listen to another sermon. Providing a video is not respectful of our time, and I am disappointed that you don’t realize that.
I hate that we’ve disappointed you by offering this video. In the above 16 minute version, Dr. Geiger gives the brief anecdote of the statue of Dagon falling before the ark of the covenant in 1 Samuel 5:1-5. Here is a link to a 1 minute promotional video from the same shoot that may better fit your schedule: https://vimeo.com/168843062
God bless you and your ministry, Preston.

Hello Pastor Campbell,
Thank you so much for the videos. They are an invaluable resource for me, especially as I introduce a new series of lessons. I came to the Lifeway leaders site, precisely for the videos. I may not use every resource for every lesson prep but I do eventually get around to pretty much all of them, depending on how the lesson is being presented. Your labor of love has not been in vain.
Again you are NOT listening nor hearing what is being asked of you! We want TEXT. Not video! Some of us do not have the ability, time, luxury to watch a video whereas reading a text would be much more convenient to many of us. Personally, myself, I do not like relying on videos. I can read in silence; videos require a device with more capabilities and possibly disturbing others.
Customers often download these videos and play them in corporate worship, or at leader training events to kick-off a new quarter. Since text is 99% of what we do, we just offer videos as supplementary resources and customers can take them or leave them. Here is an approximate transcription of what Dr. Geiger said in the shorter video:
“First Samuel is an incredible book that reminds us as God works with His people, that He is the King over all kings. Just an example in 1 Samuel chapter 5 – one of the many stories we’re going to encounter was we walk through this book; the Philistines have captured the ark of the covenant which symbolizes the presence of God. They take the ark of the covenant into the temple of one of their idol gods Dagon. They go to bed and wake up the next morning and what do they find? Dagon has crumbled before the ark of the covenant. He has bowed down. This false god, this statue has crumbled and been crushed before the ark of the covenant. Come along with us as we go through 1 Samuel. We’re going to see story after story reminding us that He is our great God.”

I enjoyed the video. I appreciate the preview of 1st Samuel.
Thanks.
This introductory video was very helpful. I am looking forward to leading our group through this study over the summer.

Very encouraging! Thank you for praying for us (leaders). I enjoyed the video format.

I have a question. I am new to this curriculum; In trying to prepare for the first lesson in Explore the Bible for Older Kids, on page 9 the leader guide says to use the Bible Story script provided for you, but I do not see where to find the script. It is not in the leader guide nor can I find it on the enhanced CD or the DVD. Am I overlooking the location of this script? Or is there another resource that I do not have?
I’ve forwarded your question to someone on our Kids ministry team.
Tim Pollardsays
Hi, Lynn,
Great question. The Bible Story script that your leader guide refers to is the paraphrase we provide for you at the beginning of the session. In the first session you can find that on page 7. It will be on the opening page of each session thereafter. We provide this as a way for you to tell the story but encourage you always to use your Bible as you tell the story and do so in your own words. Hope that helps and I would love more feedback from you as you get into your sessions. Please feel free to email me directly at [email protected]. God bless.

I disagree with the person who does not like the video. If one has time to prepare to teach these lessons, he had time to listen to someone sold out one the lesson to inspire, but also to point out what portions of the lesson someone feels are important. Please keep sending these videos and especially the individual lesson videos.
Thanks

This Sunday I have been asked to substitute for our regular leader of my EBC Sunday Life Group. This video is a great introduction of 1 Samuel. Since this is the beginning of this quarter’s study and our regular leader will not be here I think the class might enjoy watching/hearing this as much as I did. I am thinking about using it as an introduction to this study for our class on Sunday. It certainly wet my appetite to learn all God has for me to know from the books of Samuel and to apply it to my Christian walk! Thank you for being God’s vessel. The Holy Spirit will use this for God’s glory! Pray that God will use me as His vessel too!
Read the material and watched the video. Great job! It is clear that the pastor has a heart for God and His people. The written material also looks good, and authors seem well informed.
This site is confusing to navigate. An overview of all the lessons is alright, but doesn’t address the specifics of this week’s lesson. I can’t seem to locate the commentary mentioned in the book.
What a blessing. I love ministering to people who do ministry!
Derrell Nantzesays
Taught the first lesson this morning at Oaklawn Baptist for Open Door Class. I will say again that Jesse and the team did a fine job with this material. Thank you!
Sessions 3 and 4 have the same memory verse, 1 Samuel 6:20, Was that intentional? It fits a little better with Session 3 about the ark and idols, but not so well with Session 4 about Israel demanding Samuel anoint someone to be king.
1 Samuel 6:20 HCSB The men of Beth-shemesh asked, “Who is able to stand in the presence of this holy Lord God? Who should the ark go to from here?”
The memory verse for session 4 is 1 Samuel 8:7, “But the Lord told him, ‘Listen to the people and everything they say to you. They have not rejected you; they have rejected me as their king.'”
Great! That fits much better. For reference, both the print curriculum and the pdf curriculum list the incorrect verse.
As a fun side note, We give the students a list of the memory verses at the beginning of the unit, and instead of repeating 6:20, I picked 8:7. That’s probably not a surprising coincidence. It’s clearly the most powerful and convicting verse in the passage. Y’all do good work. Keep it up!
I am sorry that he thought the video was a sermon and not a teaching exercise for the average layman. I enjoyed it and appreciate the overview.

Thank you so much for this overview. While this is not really targeted at Explore the bible for Kids, I use the quarterly introductory video as part of my quarterly training and introduction to the new curriculum with all of my leaders. It’s an invaluable resource. I personally am always excited to watch it and honestly for me I get much more out of this in video format than if it was written. Lifeway provides so many great resources, thank you! I know it takes time and effort to put this together, please know that God is using it to touch the hearts and minds of many leaders and teachers.
One more thing about this video, I did take notice that David showed respect for God’s anointed, Saul, even when Saul did not show him respect. It did make me think about how was David able to do this and this was addressed in the video.. David found his approval in God.

I am just started to explore how to teach the “Explore the Bible” for Preschoolers. I would love to see a video of a actual classroom set up and of the teacher working with the children for one of the lessons. I guess I want to have a clearer picture of what a (any) lesson would look like in an “outstanding” Sunday School class. Is this something that you would consider doing some time? I’m not looking for anything but a model that I can base my teaching on or around for future lessons. Thanks for your consideration.
That is a great idea for a post, Elizabeth! I know my Explore the Bible: Kids ministry people are swamped right now, but I will see if one of them can put something together soon. Thank you for the inspiration!
