The following is a guest post by Dr. Joe Cathey, Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church Godley, Texas.
How can we help children see the value and importance of God’s Word in their lives? Lifeway’s new curriculum Explore the Bible: Kids offers an answer. The heartbeat of Explore the Bible: Kids is the desire to hide God’s Word in the hearts of children (Ps. 119:11), making the entirety of Scripture part of our children’s spiritual diets. In addition to well-known passages, the curriculum engages kids in difficult portions of Scripture that many studies omit due to a lack of age-appropriate, user-friendly resources. I can joyfully say that this curriculum views Scripture as a manageable whole. Explore the Bible: Kids uses familiar Scripture passages to illuminate the more challenging parts of the Word. For example, when exploring the Book of Hebrews, a daunting study for many adults, Explore the Bible: Kids uses Connection Passages that teach and explain the same truths of Hebrews, but in a user-friendly way. When Hebrews 1 addresses the divinity and supremacy of Jesus, Explore the Bible: Kids connects to passages in the Gospels (Matthew 8:23-27; Mark 4:35-41; Luke 8:22-25) that teach the same truths as Hebrews, but in a way that children can comprehend. Each session is very well thought out with age-appropriate learning activities as well as a key “Family Memory Verse.” Take time to examine this latest offering from Lifeway—you will not be disappointed!
