Following the recent deaths and illnesses of young people who used vaping products, several groups in Manchester, New Hampshire have banned together to propose a program against teen vaping. The groups Making It Happen, along with the Catholic Medical Center, and the non-profit Breathe New Hampshire have joined forces and put together a proposed program that includes teens and young adults speaking to their peers about the dangers of vaping. Focus Attention

To supplement the Introduce idea under Focus Attention, share the news story summary. Explain that the Manchester, New Hampshire groups created a coalition with a common goal. Ask: How does seeing a need in their community give them a reason to pool their resources? How would this coalition compare to a group project in a class setting? Complete the step as written.

Challenge

To supplement the Discuss idea under Summarize and Challenge, after reviewing the statements under In My Context, remind the group of the news story summary. Lead a brief discussion on what unified the group in Manchester, New Hampshire. Ask: How would a lack of unity as a group impact what they are hoping to accomplish? How does a shared faith create unity within the church? Complete the step as written.
