Zephaniah 1:1-7, Session 2: The Prophet

March 4, 2015 by Jennifer Siao

As you continue on in your study of the minor prophets, we encourage you to read Zephaniah 1:1–2:15 to understand the context of the specific verses (1-7) that you’ll focus in on with your students this week. Read this blog post from Alistair Begg and then think about the following questions as you prepare to teach:

  • Do you sometimes feel like you’re safe like those mentioned in verses 4-5 did? Why did they have a false sense of security?
  • Ask God to examine and search your heart for any double-mindedness. Pray for your students this week as well, specifically in this area of double-dealing.
  • The blog post/devotional says, “Christ will be all or nothing.” Take some time to ponder this and consider whether Christ is all in your life. Lead students to search their hearts for any idols and to turn from those things and live for Christ alone.

We apologize for the mistakes in the “Keep on Digging” section of session 2 in both the Personal Study Guide and the Leader Guide. The references to Joel 3:4 and 4:14 were not meant to be included (there is no fourth chapter of Joel) and the final reference to the Book of Malachi should have directed students to Malachi 4:1-3, not Malachi 3:23. Again, we apologize for this oversight. God bless you and your ministry to students!
